Fix Sound Card Problems with RealTek

One way to get better sound and audio out of your PC is by using RealTek cards. Sometimes however, issues arise with these types of devices that results in low quality sound and audio output, or perhaps no sound or audio output at all. One of the simplest solutions for these types of problems is the process of updating the drivers for these devices. The following information outlines some of the methods for identifying and eliminating RealTek issues.

Diagnosing the issue that is affecting your RealTek device is the key to getting it back up and running again, so you must be able to identify the source of the problem. One simple way to do this is by using your computer device manager. Here’s how:

1. Click Start.
2. Click Control Panel.
3. Click System.
4. Select the tab labeled Hardware.
5. Open Device Manager. You will see the devices that are part of your PC, and any that have a yellow exclamation next to them or a question mark may have issues that need to be looked at.

Identify the section where your sound devices are located. Do you see either a yellow exclamation or a question mark next to them. If so, then there are issues with the devices. Chances are pretty good that the issue has to do with the drivers for that device.

RealTek, as well as the majority of the other device producers, will have a large collection of drivers available for the devices that they put out so if anything does go wrong with your devices, you will have the necessary means of fixing them.

Here is how you can get the necessary files to update the drivers of the sound equipment that you have on your PC:

1. Visit the RealTek website at www.realtek.com.
2. Click on the “Downloads” link near the top of the site.
3. When you reach the next page, look for the “Computer Peripheral ICs.” link and mouse over it.
4. Locate the PC Audio Codecs option and mouse over it, mouse over High Definition Codecs, and then click on Software.
5. Accept the terms and then click Next to proceed.
6. On the next page you will see the available codecs for the different types of operating systems. Locate the OS that matches yours, select it, and the click “GO” on the right side of the site. From there you will be directed to the page for your driver downloads.
7. Download and save the files to a location where you will be able to remember.

Install The RealTek Drivers

Extract the install files and then execute the installation file to run the installation. When the install begins you will be presented with a wizard that you can follow through step by step. Click Next when directed until the installation is complete. The final step of the installation process will be to restart your computer. You may then open the device manager once more to verify that your devices are working properly again.
