Install DVD Drivers
Because technology has become more advanced in recent years, and because new more advanced operating systems have been introduced, DVD and DVD-RW drives are being used as the primary disk drive instead of the CD drive. DVD and DVD-RW drives are more efficient than traditional CD drives for a number of reasons.
DVD drives give you the ability of playing DVD movies and are able to store more data than the traditional CDs. DVD drives are actually much faster so they can process more information in a shorter amount of time. They are also able to store more data because of the larger capacity. When your computer is functioning at peak levels, DVD drives can process data at a much higher rate. Just like any other hardware device, DVD drives require drivers that will tell the computer how to interact with the device.
How to Locate DVD Drivers
In most cases an installation wizard will be used when you actually install the device for the first time. The wizard is easy to use and will simply walk you through the process of installing the drivers for the new hardware device. You will most likely have to restart your system when the install completes. In most cases, the wizard will locate the must up to date drivers for your device. You want to remember to keep your DVD devices, as well as any other devices on your PC, update at all times in order to ensure proper functionality. You can manually search for the latest versions of the drivers that you need. This can be done from the device manager.
To view the device manager, click Start, Control Panel, and then click System. Select the hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.
Scan through the list of installed devices until you find your DVD drive. If your device has a yellow exclamation next to it, then you need to locate new drivers for it.
Locate the manufacturer name by opening up the properties dialog window.
Go to the manufacturer site to find the most up to date drivers for your device based on the operating system that you have on your PC. You might also want to try and find your DVD drive’s drivers by doing a search online or by going to the Microsoft website.
When you locate the drivers that you need for your device, you can then download them to your computer. Make sure you download them to a location that you will remember, and then run the installation when you are ready to do so. A wizard will run and you will be walked through the process step by step.
Drivers from CD
You can also find the drivers you need if the device you installed has an installation CD. All you have to do is plug in the CD into your computer and then find the drivers that are need for your computer.
Update Driver
You can manually update the drivers for your device through the Device Manager. Simply locate your device in the device manager window, right click on it, and then select Properties. This is where you will be able to select the Update Drivers option. Click it, and you will be able to go through the process of locating the most up to date drivers for your device.
Whenever you download and install new drivers for devices on your computer, it is a good idea to restart your machine after each install. This will also help ensure that your computer performs at the most efficient levels possible and will keep the devices on your PC compatible with all hardware on your machine. It may be a good idea to allow your computer to update automatically so that you have the latest updates at all times.
