Windows Media Player Errors

As with just about any program that you install on your Windows operating system, the Windows Media Player can experience errors that might prevent it from functioning properly when you need it to run. These errors often stem from issues that exist in the Windows registry of your PC.

There are a number of Windows Media Player errors that could occur when you try to use it and some of the more common errors experienced are listed below.

1. Cannot perform the requested action.
2. Windows Media Player does not support this file type.
3. Cannot perform the requested action.

These errors could be due in part to the fact that the program may be trying to use files that no longer exists, are corrupt, or are invalid for some other reason. It also could be due to the fact that one or more of the Jscrpt registry keys are no longer valid. This could be caused by a missing Jscript.dll file, or one that has become corrupt of damaged.

If you would like to fix the Windows Media Player errors that you are currently facing, then you’ll be happy to know that you have a couple options. If your error is in fact Jscript related, the you may want to try and re-register the Jscript.dll and Vbscript.dll files on your system. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Click Start.
2. Click Run.
3. Type “regsvr32 jscript.dll”
4. Click OK.
5. Type “regsvr32 vbscript.dll”.
6. Click OK.

Hopefully this will have resolved the issue, but if it did not, then you may have to identify whether or not the files in question actually exist, or if they are damaged or corrupt in some way. You may also experience other errors if this is indeed the case.

You can attempt to locate the missing file(s) by do the following:

1. Click Start.
2. Click Run.
3. Type msconfig, click OK.
4. Click “File”.
5. Type the name of the file that you wish to have restored in the File to restore box.
6. Type the path of the Windows XP .cab file where you would like to get the file from. You can also browse to the location to find it as well.
7. Click Expand.
8. Click Ok in the System Configuration Utility and then restart your computer if this is what it is asking you to do.
