Speed Up Your PC

Your computers performance will diminish over time, this is inevitable for the most part because of the normal wear and tear that they go through. You may even begin to wonder if your computer has become infected with spyware, or if it is just too old and outdated. You can fix your slow PC issues using a number of methods which will in turn help improve the performance that you get out of your machine.

There are a couple strategies that have been proven to improve the performance of your PC.

Disk Defragmentation

Files are always changing on your system, even with the simplest activities that you perform. When this occurs, the files on your PC get located and relocated in one or many different areas of your hard drive. This can slow your PC down, especially if there is a large amount of data involved. Thanks to Microsoft, a very handy tool was created to address these issues.

Here are the steps to run Disk Defrag on Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems:
1. Click Start
2. Type “Disk Defragmenter” in the search box. It will most likely appear first in the list of results.
3. Select Disk Defragmenter
4. Click continue if necessary, and then continue to click the OK buttons if there are any that follow the continue button.
5. The next major action will be to click the Defragment Now/Defragment Disk button, and then select the drive location that you wish to defrag, typically the C: drive.

Running a disk defrag on your computer could take quite some time, sometimes up to two or three hours. This of course depends on how fragmented your disk drives are.

If you wish to run the defragmenter on older operating systems, you may follow these steps:

1. Click Start
2. Click My Computer
3. Right click the C: drive, and then click Properties in the dialog window that opens up.
4. Select the Tools tab in the window that opens up.
5. Click the button that says Defragment Now.
6. Click Defragment in the next window that opens up.

Again, depending on the current condition of your PC, the process could take quite some time.

Cleaning Your Registry

Another strategy that can help improve the performance of your PC is the process of cleaning your registry. There is a very large amount of data within the windows registry and sometimes that data can become corrupt or invalid, which can indirectly cause other issues with applications, user settings, and more.

Errors can occur in your registry for a number of reasons including unexpected shutdown, incomplete application installations, and more. It may be the case that you won’t ever notice the issues, but they still should be addressed.

There are some signs that could indicate that a registry cleaning is needed. Slow PC performance, File Not Found, and Extension errors are all common errors that you might experience if you have errors in your registry. Also if your computer shuts down or applications close randomly without cause, or if your computer freezes up in the middle of your work, then you may need to clean your registry.

If this is the case with your PC, then you might want to consider running a scan to identify problems. Often times you can run a scan at not cost with the software before you actually purchase it.

To scan your registry, simply download and install a registry cleaner of your choice and the run the registry scan to identify and eliminate issues that are affecting the performance of your PC. It is quite possible that you will begin to see improvement as soon as you perform this task.
